Meet the newest addition to the Raven Creative team, Brenda Barragan. As a communications expert, Brenda is responsible for managing client relationships and guiding successful projects from start to finish. Get to know Brenda with our fun Q&A!
Tell us about your background. Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. I moved to Houston with my family when I was 15 years old. Three years ago, I moved to Paris, France, to get a master’s degree in fashion management, and I worked at the headquarters of Publicis Groupe in Paris as a Global Media Assistant for the Ralph Lauren and Pierre Fabre Group accounts. I returned to Houston last year in July 2022.
What do you love most about working at Raven Creative?
There are a lot of things that make Raven Creative a great place to work. Every single employee is an all-star. Everyone gives their 100% and we work very closely towards the same goals. I also like the diversity of our client portfolio – I get to work with clients in different industries, some new to me such as Energy, Logistics, Construction, etc. and get to learn new things every day. Our clients have also been great to work with. I truly appreciate how communicative and knowledgeable they are and the client relationships I’ve built with them.
What are your favorite types of projects to spearhead and why?
Branding projects and website design! I love the strategy process that goes behind these types of projects, from understanding our clients’ business needs and the needs of their customers along with defining a strategy and messaging framework that intertwines and provides value to both, to developing their brand identity, visual strategy, and user/customer experience. I like these projects because we can truly explore creativity, but at the same time every creative decision is driven by research, logic, numbers, and functionality.
When you’re not working, what are you doing?
I love fashion, traveling, eating, dancing and visiting museums or exhibitions. On my free time I research fashion trends, go out to try new restaurants, and spend time with my boyfriend, friends and family. I love traveling to new places and learning more about other cultures and their history. In Houston, you can find me at a local restaurant having dinner with friends, sipping a cocktail in the Heights or Montrose area, at a museum, or Memorial Park.
What’s on your bucket list this year?
I feel like I have already accomplished a lot of what was on my bucket list this year (thankfully), but there are a few things that I still want to do such as visiting a new country, going back to Guadalajara, Mexico, to see family and start learning German.
If you could compare your life to any movie, TV show or book, what would it be?
It’s going to sound very cliché, but the only show I can truly compare my life with has been “Emily in Paris.” I was living in Paris from 2020-2022 right when the TV series started running. Just as the main character Emily, I struggled a little bit to adapt to the French culture in the beginning; I didn’t speak French and was working in fashion/luxury marketing with French people. So many things that you see Emily struggling with in the series also happened to me. But just like it happened to her, I fell in love with the people, the city itself, the arts, and the French joie de vivre.
